Autism Society Habilitation Organization

ASHO (Autism Society Habilitation Organization) is a New York City–based nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Our tagline says it plainly: "Autism is not a tragedy — Ignorance is."

For over two decades, we have provided professional, compassionate, and community-centered services across Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. We specialize in case management, OPWDD enrollment, guardianship, benefit assistance, community education, and large-scale social care projects.

What sets ASHO apart is our genuine commitment to the whole family — not just the individual with a disability. We meet families where they are, speak their language (English and Bangla), and walk alongside them through every step.

Mission & Vision

Why We Exist. Where We’re Going.

Each of our core programs has a dedicated team of professionals committed to providing high-quality, person-centered support.

Our Mission

"To provide high-quality, person-centered services that empower individuals with developmental disabilities to live fulfilling, self-determined lives — supported by their families and connected to their communities."

We accomplish this through case management, guardianship, community education, social care projects, and awareness programs designed for the families we serve.

Our Vision

"A fully inclusive New York City where every individual — regardless of ability, background, or language — has equal access to the support, opportunity, and community they deserve."

We work toward this vision every day through our programs, our partnerships, and our community advocacy — building a New York where no one is left behind.

Our Values

What Guides Everything We Do

These six principles aren’t aspirational posters on a wall — they are the living standards that shape every program, every hire, and every interaction at ASHO.

  • Community

We believe in the power of connected communities. Every individual we serve is part of a larger network of support, belonging, and shared purpose.

  • Dignity

Every person has inherent worth. We approach every interaction with deep respect for the autonomy, identity, and humanity of those we serve.

  • Equity

We actively work to remove barriers — systemic, linguistic, economic — so that every family has a fair path to the services and support they deserve.

  • Compassion

Compassion is the foundation of everything we do. We listen first, judge never, and serve with genuine care for the whole person and their family.

  • Excellence

We hold ourselves to the highest professional standards — in case management, program delivery, staff training, and community partnerships.

  • Inclusion

An inclusive New York is our goal. We serve across cultures and languages, providing bilingual support so no family is left behind.
